SMART GRID PROJECT
Vinnova (Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems), and Statens Energimyndighet (Swedish Energy Agency), have awarded GoalArt 2.3 MSEK for a project to develop alarm reduction and root cause analysis for smart grids. The aim of the project is to create a system that integrates diagnosis of electric power grids and communication networks. The project will be performed 2010-2011.


DX COMPETITION
GoalArt participated in the rerun of the Diagnostic Challenge 2009, and finished second, which is an impressive result after only a short work effort. GoalArt's strengths were a fast algorithm and very efficient knowledge engineering.

NUCLEAR PROJECT
On March 1st 2005, GoalArt started a project with IFE Halden, in which a GoalArt diagnostic system will be developed for a nuclear power plant simulator. The project includes root cause analysis and sensor fault detection based on MFM, as well as state-based alarm priority, and will cover around 8000 signals, that is, the entire BWR power plant simulator. The project is a part of IFE Halden's research activities, and the goal is to apply new technology for developing improved alarm systems for the nuclear industry.

On April 6 2005, ABB and Vinnova arranged an alarm seminar in Västerås. Jan Eric Larsson gave a presentation on research and development in the alarm area today.



GDS DELIVERED TO LUNDS ENERGI
In January 2005, GoalArt delivered a GoalArt Diagnostic Station with root cause analysis to Lunds Energi. The system is now in continuous operation at the Återbruket plant outside Lomma, and performs root cause analysis on-line on real-time data.

ALARM CLEANUP AT SYDKRAFT ÖSTVÄRME
In November 2004, GoalArt performed an alarm cleanup of Boiler 13 at Sydkraft Östvärme in Norrköping. The result showed that there were a number of nuiscance and silent alarms. There was a potential to remove about 75% of the total number of alarms.

In June 2004, GoalArt signed a project with Lunds Energi for installing alarm analysis at the power plant Återbruket in Lomma. The project includes MFM modeling and delivery of a GoalArt Diagnostic Station at the plant, and one at the main control room in Lund. An alarm cleanup is also included.

ALARM CLEANUP NEW SERVICE FROM GOALART
In 2004, GoalArt's offers a service called alarm cleanup. Alarm limits can be set to correct values in a simple, low cost, and efficient way, based on logged trend data. In this way, one avoids nuiscance alarms and silent alarms (alarms that are not triggered even when there is a fault). This service matches well with GoalArt's other products and services.

WIN IN VENTURE CUP
In May 2004, a team including Jan Eric Larsson and his two Ph.D. students Jonas Ahnlund and Tord Bergquist won Venture Cup Syd with a business idea based on alarm cleanup. The team is now split up, and alarm cleanup is available as a service from GoalArt.

In February 2004, GoalArt started a strategic cooperation with DHF Airport Systems. DHF develops and sells resource allocation systems for the airport market, and it will be a GoalArt partner for diagnostic systems for airports worldwide.

NEW PATENT
In December 2003, GoalArt was awarded its third patent. GoalArt now holds patents protecting its GoalArt Diagnostic Station, algorithms, and part of the MFM modeling technology.

IEE/ACT CLUB IN GLASGOW
GoalArt participated in the IEE/ACT Club meeting on "Techniques and Practice in Fault Detection, Diagnosis and Control" being held on September 17, 2003, at Strathclyde University, Glasgow. Jan Eric Larsson gave a presentation titled "Alarm Reduction and Fault Diagnosis for Industrial Systems."

In August 2003, an article about GoalArt and the nuclear power plant project appeared in the popular science magazine Nordiska Industriprojekt.

PROJECT WITH ELSAM
In August 2003, GoalArt agreed on a project with Elsam, Denmark's largest producer of electricity and heating, and Elsam Engineering, the engineering company of Elsam. The objective of the project is to investigate how valuable GoalArt's algorithms for alarm analysis and state-based alarm priority will be for conventional power plant control rooms. A test installation is planned for Nordjyllandverket, close to Ålborg, Denmark.

VATTENFALL PILOT PROJECT
GoalArt's pilot project with Vattenfall Utveckling was successfully concluded by 30 November 2002. The project tested alarm analysis, sensor fault detection, and state-based alarm priority. Vattenfall Utveckling is now investigating whether the project can be continued within the Vattenfall sphere.

MORTEN LIND SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR
On June 28th 2001, the inventor of MFM, Professor Morten Lind from the Technical University of Denmark, visited GoalArt and joined as scientific advisor.

MASTER'S PROJECTS
In June, Jonas Ahnlund, D97 and Tord Bergquist, D97 started on a master's project on alarm cleanup, in cooperation with the Department of Information Technology and Sycon/Sydkraft.

SUMMER PROJECT WORKER
Linus Nilsson, D97, joined GoalArt in June for a 2.5 month summer project. After that, he will go for a master's project at Stanford University, California.

NEW EMPLOYEES
In May, GoalArt hired two new employees, Antonio Calzada and David Sjölander. They will work with software implementation and projects. The work force is now 7 people.

After finishing his licentiate thesis, Bengt Öhman joined GoalArt on April 1st 2001.

NEW OFFICES AT SPARTA
On March 12th 2001, GoalArt moved in to the new offices at Sparta in Lund.

START IN ITACT'S GREENHOUSE
On December 1st 2000, GoalArt started its activities in Itact's greenhouse at Stortorget 4 in Lund, with Fredrik Dahlstrand as first employee. In January, he was joined by Jan Eric Larsson, Jan Tuszynski, and Anu Uus.

C&I CONFERENCE IN BRISTOL
GoalArt appeared at the International Conference on Control and Instrumentation in Nuclear Installations, arranged by the Institution of Nuclear Engineers, held in Bristol November 7-9 2000.

GOALART NOMINATED IN VENTURE CUP
GoalArt participated in Venture Cup Öresund 2000, and finished as one of 8 nominees (2 Swedish and 6 Danish) out of a total of 270 entries, of which 53 survived to the final round.
